Can you apply project management principles to a case study? The APM Practitioner Qualification Assessment Centre allows you to demonstrate your project management know-how in a practical way.
The APM Practitioner Qualification is for project managers, project coordinators and team leaders who have three to five years' experience in managing non-complex projects. This is an intermediate qualification for project management practitioners who can demonstrate an ability to manage non-complex projects or run a key control function of a large-scale project. This qualification (IPMA Level C) is for any relatively experienced professional who is looking to demonstrate their ability.
Is it right for me?
Project managers, with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in responsible leadership functions of non-complex projects, wishing to have their capability as a project manager recognised by a formal qualification.
Delegates must satisfy one of the following criteria for project management knowledge:
- Passed the APMP qualification or
- Can demonstrate good familiarity with the APM Body of Knowledge (BoK) and have passed an equivalent qualification such as PMP®, ISEB Certificate in Project Management, Open University Project Management Module M865.
- Alternatively, delegates should have good foundation knowledge of project management, supported by evidence of relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
What will I learn?
The APM Practitioner Qualification is not a course; therefore no formal input of theory is included in this assessment process.
By the end of the assessment centre, delegates will have been assessed against 30 criteria and demonstrated their ability to manage non-complex projects from start to finish in a structured way.
Pre-course Activity
It is recommended to refresh your knowledge of project management best-practice for example through review of materials from previous training courses attended or APM’s Body of Knowledge book.

What will it cover?
Delegates will attend an Assessment Centre for 2 ½ days which assesses a candidate’s ability to apply project management skills and techniques to a non-complex project, or to assist in a more complex project.
During that time, delegates will be demonstrating that they can analyse, identify, and understand issues and information surrounding a non-complex project as follows:
Group work (observed by an assessor)
- Delegates will carry out group exercises to discuss and solve problems relating to a case study.
Individual work (five one-hour individual exams)
- Delegates will provide written answers to questions based upon the given case study and will also provide a written answer to a question on a topical issue in project management related to their own experience.
Interviews
- All delegates will be interviewed individually by their assessor.
